The Challenge
Maintaining the charm of a traditional pub while meeting modern functional needs requires careful planning. During its recent refurbishment, The Mermaid Inn required specific electrical improvements. The existing lighting in the main bar and toilet facilities needed updating to provide better illumination and a warmer ambience. Furthermore, the bar staff needed reliable power and data connections for their restaurant tills to process orders efficiently.
The Solution
E.R Electrical Services carried out a detailed electrical installation designed to minimise disruption while maximising impact. We focused on three key areas of the property:
The Bar Area
We completely refreshed the main hospitality space with extensive lighting upgrades. Our team replaced 14 standard downlights and upgraded three ceiling spots to adjustable downlights for better directional lighting. We also replaced six older ceiling spots with modern units and swapped a ceiling pendant for a dual spot fixture. To ensure a warm, inviting glow suitable for a pub setting, we installed warm white (WW 2500K) 6W GU10 and ES27 bulbs.
To support the staff's operational needs, we installed secure cable trunking to route one new data point and a double socket directly to the restaurant till location. We also added two further double sockets within the unit to power additional tills.
Ladies Toilet
We improved the lighting and ventilation in the ladies' facilities. We replaced five downlights to ensure clear, consistent visibility. We also replaced a 100mm timer fan to guarantee proper air circulation and maintain a fresh environment for guests.
Gents Toilet
We matched the standard of the ladies' facilities by replacing three downlights in the gents' toilet, ensuring a bright and clean appearance.
